The bag that beats the gate

Explorer 2 is built to the exact 40 x 30 x 20 cm free under-seat allowance that Ryanair and Wizz Air actually enforce. It is a considered piece of luggage with a hard, specific reason to exist, which is what makes it sell from a shelf rather than sit on one.

Why it sells

Every customer who flies budget has already lost this argument

Airlines have quietly turned cabin space into a revenue line. The free under-seat allowance shrank, the fees did not. Most travel bags ignore this and sell on looks. Explorer 2 is dimensioned to the rule itself, so the pitch on your shop floor is one sentence long: this one goes free.

£60

Typical return-trip gate fee when a bag is judged oversized. Roughly half the price of the bag, paid to an airline, for nothing.

40x30x20

The free under-seat allowance Ryanair and Wizz Air enforce. The Explorer 2 base footprint hits it exactly, not approximately.

2 trips

How long the bag takes to pay for itself against avoided fees. That is the line that closes the sale at the counter.

It answers a question, not a mood

Travel accessories are a soft category because most of it is impulse. This is a problem purchase with a number attached, which converts far better for a small independent than another nice-looking holdall.

One SKU, three colourways

You are not committing to a range or a size run. Ten units of one product, in whichever mix suits your floor, is the whole commitment.

It sells to your existing customer

No new audience needed. Anyone who already buys outerwear, denim or footwear from you and takes two or three short-haul trips a year is the buyer.

The product

Explorer 2, feature by feature

Select a feature to see it. Each one exists to solve something a traveller has actually been caught out by.

The size argument

Built to the rule, then given room to grow

The base is 40 x 30 x 20 cm, which is the free under-seat allowance exactly. Unzip the expansion and it becomes 40 x 30 x 25 cm, taking usable volume from about 24L to about 30L for trips where the free allowance is not the constraint.

Worth knowing for your staff: the 25 cm expansion is deliberately outside the free under-seat allowance. It is there for the flights and airlines where it does not apply. Keep the two claims separate on the shop floor and the customer never feels misled.

Change anything below and the figures move with it.

If you are not VAT registered you cannot reclaim the VAT on the trade price, but you also do not hand VAT over on the sale. The calculation changes, so it is worth setting this correctly.

Figures exclude your inbound carriage where applicable. VAT-registered calculation strips VAT out of the shelf price at 20% and treats the trade price as reclaimable.

We protect your shelf

Our own site holds at the same recommended retail while you are stocking, and the public welcome discount is switched off for the accounts and periods that would undercut a partner. You should never lose a sale to us on price.

Start at ten, not a hundred

Ten units is a real test, not a leap of faith. If it does not move for you, you have found that out for £500 rather than committing a season's budget to it.

We do the selling work

Counter card and a short staff briefing sheet with the gate-fee numbers on it, supplied free with the opening order. Your team can pitch it in one sentence on day one.

Small shops, chosen deliberately

BRAW is stocked at Frontiers in Edinburgh and Finnieston Clothing in Glasgow. We are not chasing volume through department stores. We would rather be in a handful of independents whose buyers people actually trust, and support those accounts properly.
